Filled Logbooks?

From: bassackwardsfrommd (oldhonda@verizon.net) | Date: 2007-01-23 10:51:13 UTC
I can't remember if I've asked this before or not. With a new (well,
relatively new. She's 7 months old now!)baby at home, many things
have fallen by the wayside. Letterboxing too, unfortunately. What
does everyone do with their logbooks once they're filled? Do you take
them home as a keepsake? Do you leave them in the box for others to
look at and just add a new book? I was told a while ago that the
Bassackwards Box needs a new book, but have had no time to get out
there and replace it. I haven't abandoned my boxes, they're just on
their own for a little while! I love checking the boxes and seeing
who has stamped in. I'd kind of like to keep the books.

I've seen both...where the placer left Logbook #1 and
added Logbook #2, and others where the first logbook
had been removed. I think it's up to you.

If you make a note in your clues that the box needs a
new logbook, most finders would be happy to bring
something along. I'd much rather do that than be
confronted with a pile of loose papers that folks have
stamped on because of a too-full logbook.

Personally I would remove log book #1 and put in a new one. I say this
because I THINK having a log book full of wonderful stamps is a part of why
you planted a box in the first place... so once you have a book full I
wouldn't want to leave it there and risk it getting lost or damaged or
stolen.

Two old phrases come to mind:

"6 of one, half dozen of the other," and "damned if you do, damned if you
don't." :-) I think both finders and placers come from their own
perspective.

As a finder, I kind of like to have the logbooks left in the box (if they
fit) so that I can see all the stamps and comments of finders who came
before me.

On the other hand, as a placer, I also want to *eventually* have the
logbooks myself. And by leaving filled ones in the box, I'm taking the risk
of them being damaged by water, losing them if the box goes missing or is
badly vandalized, etc.

And as both a finder and a placer, I'll take up my position.......sittin'
right on the fence.

I've found 2 boxes with full logbooks and in both of them, the old log
was there and a new one. It was fun to look thru all the older
entries.
